Vanaf het moment dat de diagnose diabetes mellitus type 2 wordt gesteld, krijgen veel patiënten te maken met een praktijkondersteuner huisarts. Een steeds groter deel van de diabeteszorg vindt plaats in de eerste lijn: inmiddels zo’n 75%. Bovendien zal het aantal patiënten de komende jaren naar verwachting alleen maar toenemen.
